DAVID'S WEB

If you have chanced to land on this site, bear with me. I have only just started building it. It will be some time, as I am doing it the hard way, and I am an amateur.

So, what's it all about?

Well, I have built up quite an extensive site with another host. Now that I have spent months and months doing so, and just as the search engines are beginning to point to me, the host has taken to arbitrarily rejecting my password, and refusing to accept any questions or complaints about bugs from me. I find it annoying to be locked into one site. So here goes for a more relaxed approach.

We will start out with a preface which I am particularly fond of.

And what a magical Preface it is! I quote it in full:-

To the Reader.

Gentle Reader,

That curteous entertainment which this book hath hitherto found, causeth it to come again abroad; as older, so a little larger: not doubting but that men of candid sinceritie will be readie, not onely to give it a friendly welcome, but also to drive away those two immortall enemies, which continually besiege and assault every good Labour, I mean Curiositie and Envie. The first whereof is harboured in the breasts of those, who (though hard to please) are crediblie supposed to be more nice than wise. The other, a restlesse wretch; yet fearlesse enough to them which know her: onely the worst is, like a filthie flie she seeks all over the body for a soare, and where she cannot find, she makes one. I wish to be as free as I can from the reach of these Readers, committing my poore endeavours to the use of such as are more worthy of their mean service. For although I go not about to teach the Learned, yet the Ignorant may be instructed in what before they knew not; yea, and the Learned also may be occasioned to call again to mind something which (for the present) hath either slept or slipt their memories by reason of their better thoughts, and deeper contemplations. Take therefore in good part what's thus intended towards thee: So shall my pains not quite want their recompence, Nor thy self be branded with that filthie mark of foul Ingratitude.

Farewell.
